The inspiration behind this foundation is Ms. Meenu Agarwal’s fight as she herself is a kidney transplant patient. In 1997, at the age of 28, she was stricken by Wegner’s disease (Auto-immune disease) that slowly attacks the major organs of the body. The doctors took 3 years to diagnose but by the time her eyes, nose, lungs and kidneys had already been affected. In 2000, she was put on dialysis and on medication for Wegner’s. Her determination to not succumb to this deadly disease along with great efforts by her nephrologist, Dr. B.S. Solanki helped her to fight this grim reality. Finally in 2002, she received a kidney transplant through a cadaver. A family’s decision to donate organs helped her lead a wholesome life.
The decision to establish this foundation was borne out of this kind gesture. Meenu’s father, Late. Mr. Sat P. Aggarwal was determined to extend the kindness that had once saved his daughter’s life. However, due to his illness in the following years that led to his sad demise in 2011, our founder Ms. Meenu took the step to fulfill his last wishes. The foundation is aptly in the name of her parents, Sat and Kusum, who are the reason she is here today.
We understand the devastation a person and their family suffers due to not only the emotional trauma but also due to the drain in finances through recurring high-cost expenses involved in the treatment of renal diseases. Many patients are unable to afford this kind of treatment and succumb to this silent disease.
SKA foundation is a voluntary non-profit organization, solely dedicated to create awareness about kidney related diseases and extend a helping hand to individuals or families affected by it. It was founded by individuals who realized the fatality of this lifestyle-based disease and understood the urgency to take this initiative. The primary challenge is to reach the maximum people in the society to spread awareness about renal diseases, to support the underprivileged and financially weak sections of society, by providing medicines, injections and dialysis.
For the past 5 years the foundation has helped patients through dialysis, kidney transplants, pre and post transplant medicines and other related procedures. We urge you to come forward to spread awareness and join us in our noble endeavor.
